The Otonloye UK branch held its monthly meeting on the 6th of April, 2024, at the All Saints Community Hall in New Cross, London. Chaired by Mr. Sunny Okuku, the meeting saw an impressive turnout of 30 members, as it coincided with the branch’s election.
Attendees were adorned in their full Itsekiri attire, with the men looking distinguished in their kemijes and the women radiant in their blouses and colorful wrappers. The atmosphere was vibrant and celebratory, enhanced by the April hosts who provided a delightful array of Itsekiri and Nigerian traditional refreshments.
During the election, Mr. Princewell Omagbemi was elected as the new Chairman of the branch, defeating his opponent Mr. Colin Esimaje. Other elected executives include:
- Vice Chairman: Mrs. Helen Emakpose
- Secretary: Mr. Norris Orighoye
- Treasurer: Ms. Maria Ogholaja-Ogboru (retaining her position)
- Assistant Secretary: Ms. Grace Odolomerun (retaining her position)
- Chief Whip: Ms. Edith Ogharaerumi (retaining her position)
- Financial Secretary: Mrs. Toju Awani (previously Welfare Assistant)
- Welfare Lead: Mrs. Grace Ashaiku
- Welfare Assistant: Mrs. Helen Egwu
The meeting was both enjoyable and significant, marking a successful election and a continuation of strong community spirit within the Otonloye UK branch.
